As Taraba State residents prepare to vote for their new governor on Saturday, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stated on Wednesday that the All Progressives Congress, APC, does not have a viable candidate.
The declaration was issued in accordance with the Supreme Court’s decision in suit No SC/CV/1564/2022 on February 1, 2023.
The Supreme Court declared that any political party that fails to comply with the rules of the electoral legislation regarding candidate selection would be excluded from the election.
According to the ruling, the APC cannot have a legitimate candidate in Saturday’s gubernatorial race.
The Independent National Electoral Commission
“The Independent National Electoral Commission, the good people of Taraba State, and the general public are invited to note that the import of the Supreme Court’s judgement is to the effect that the APC cannot validly field a candidate in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Taraba State, having failed to comply with the mandatory provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, with regard to the conduct of elections,” said PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba.
Supreme Court judgement
After the Supreme Court judgement, Ologunagba stated that INEC cannot approve any APC governorship candidate in Taraba State.
He told Taraba State residents that voting for the APC on Saturday would be a waste of time.
“The people of Taraba State should be aware that any vote cast or attributed to the APC in the March 18, 2023, Taraba State Governorship election would be considered a wasted vote,” he said.
