During the weekend, the Ebonyi State leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, condemned the heinous murder of Mr Ogbonnaya Ugwu, the councillor representing Echara Ward 2 in Okposi town, Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Ugwu, also known as SPACO, was assassinated by unknown assailants at 10 p.m. on Saturday night while returning from his business, Angle 90 in Okposi.
According to the DRILLOGIST, Ugwu was approached and shot by gunmen at the Okposi Court Area crossroads. His assassination, the second in the court area in a month, sparked community outrage.
In a statement issued by Charles Otu, Director, Media and Publicity of the campaign council of the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Prof. Benard Odoh, the APGA leadership in Ebonyi State expressed dismay at the occurrence.
“Only a few weeks before the previous election, another teenager, Mr Ogbonnaya Agwu, was killed down in the same Court Area [of] Okposi Okwu in Ohaozara Local Government Area by yet-to-be-identified gunmen,” the statement said.
The party charged Governor David Umahi with leaving no stone unturned in apprehending and prosecuting the homicidal gang that has terrorized Okposi village, Ohaozara LGA, and the whole state.
The party further urged the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and other security agencies to mop up arms that are in the hands of unauthorised persons, especially thugs, before the forthcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections in the 13 LGAs of the state.
APGA further tasked security agencies to retrieve all arms and ammunition given to the disbanded Ebubeagu security outfit, which according to them are stockpiled in the old Government House in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
