The police in Ogun State have arrested three suspected serial killers, who they said were leading members of the Eiye confraternity.
They were arrested on Wednesday, having been “terrorizing Ijebu Ode and its environs for quite some time,” Ogun State police image maker, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Saturday.
Oyeyemi identified the suspects as Odukoya Odushina (the number one Eiye member), Subomi Popoola and Itunuoluwa Taiwo.
Their arrest, he explained, followed information received by the cops at Obalende divisional headquarters Ijebu-Ode, that cultists were holding a nocturnal meeting at a black spot known as Sanga, behind the Central Mosque.
The meeting, DRILOGIDT learnt, was “with a view to unleashing terror on members of the community.”
Upon the information, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Obalende division had mobilized his detectives to the said black spot.
It was said that “on sighting the policemen, the hoodlums attacked them with dangerous weapons, but they were subdued” and apprehended.
Preliminary investigation, Oyeyemi hinted, revealed that “the arrested suspects were not only into cultism, they were into armed robbery as well.”
Police had discovered that Odukoya was once arrested and charged to court, but he was granted bail.
“On the third day after he was granted bail, he went with his gang to rob at Ayegbami area of ijebu Ode, where he killed one man simply known as Baba Njo,” the police spokesman alleged.
“Some robbed items such as jewellery, phones, and suspected hard drugs were recovered from them.
“The group has also been linked to several cult killings in ijebu Ode and its environs.”
Meanwhile, a full-scale investigation has been ordered into the activities of the suspects, as the Ogun Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, ordered a manhunt for their accomplices, with the view to charging them to court as soon as possible.
