The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Tuesday of attempting to delete and remove evidence of suspected cheating in the presidential election last Saturday.
INEC was accused by the PDP of attempting to delete evidence in order to prevent it from gaining proof that the BVAS machines had been altered.
The previous ruling party’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, claimed INEC’s decision was intended to impede Nigerians’ desire to seek redress in court.
“We have invited you to notify Nigerians and the World Community of the abominable move by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delete and obliterate evidence of electoral fraud,” Ologunaba stated during a news conference
obliterate and remove proof of its heinous manipulation of the Presidential election on February 25, 2023.
“Late yesterday at 10:10 p.m., INEC filed a motion demanding that it be permitted to reconfigure the BVAS machines and wipe all critical information that our Party and Candidate require to prosecute our case at the Presidential Election Tribunal.
“This deplorable conduct by INEC to impede the desire of Nigerians to acquire redress through the court is a clear recipe for crisis and a purposeful intent by the Commission to derail our democracy and provoke anarchy in the country.
“Nigerians can recall how the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu superintended over the manipulation of the results of the Presidential election and hurriedly announced a winner in spite of widespread outcry and complain over numerous evidence of malpractices and violation of several provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022 by INEC and its officials.
“The INEC Chairman circumvented all steps and procedures provided by the Electoral Act, 2022 for the declaration of results, including announcing and declaring only results transmitted directly from Polling Units to the INEC Server/Website and reviewing the results in the event of disputes and objections as to the correctness and consistency of the collated result.”
