The Maya community in Lanlate town, situated in the Ibarapa East Local Government Area within the Ibarapa geo-political zone of Oyo State, is currently grappling with a complete blackout. This unfortunate situation resulted from a destructive fire incident that consumed the electric transformer responsible for powering the entire community.
On Friday, reports revealed that a fierce fire had engulfed Maya market in Lanlate town, causing substantial damage amounting to millions of naira. The inferno ravaged numerous shops and stalls, leading to the destruction of goods and properties.
Adebo Ogundoyin, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly representing Ibarapa East Constituency, confirmed the incident during a visit to the affected community. He expressed concern about the severe consequences of the fire, emphasizing that the incident has severely disrupted the socio-economic activities of the Maya community.
Ogundoyin stated, “I inspected a section of Maya Market, Lanlate, in Ibarapa East Local Government, which was gutted by fire. The inferno not only completely burnt shops and stalls but also destroyed the electric transformer, plunging the entire Maya community into darkness. This has undoubtedly paralyzed the socio-economic activities of my people in Maya.”
Despite the devastation, Ogundoyin expressed gratitude that there were no casualties in the fire incident. He extended sympathy to the traders who suffered losses and assured them that he would bring the matter to the Governor’s attention. Additionally, he pledged prompt action to address the transformer issue and restore power to the Maya community.
