Bayern Munich have provided an update on forward Sadio Mane’s injury after the Senegal international limps off injured just 12 days before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Bundesliga champions are hopeful Mane has avoided serious injury after picking up a knock in their 6-1 win over Werder Bremen on Tuesday evening.
The result against Bremen means Bayern are on top of the Bundesliga table with four points clear.
However, Mane’s injury overshadowed the result, with the 30-year-old going down with a knee injury that required treatment after just 15 minutes in the encounter.
The former Liverpool star was replaced by former Man City player Leroy Sane as he headed straight down the tunnel for further treatment.
Speaking after the match at his post-match press conference, Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann hoped Mane’s injury is not a big one.
Nagelsmann also said he is expecting a further update on Mane’s injury on Wednesday.
“I didn’t see him after the game, I hope it’s not a big injury. But I don’t know at the moment, the Bayern boss said. ‘We’ll see tomorrow and then give an update,” Nagelsmann said at his post-match press conference.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s assistant coach Dino Toppmöller offered a somewhat more positive update on Mane’s injury.
Toppmöller told reporters after the game: “He got hit on the nerve in the knee area. Apparently, it’s nothing that bad.”
