New Chelsea signing Wesley Fofana has revealed Blues defender Reece James messaged him privately to ask him to make the move from Leicester City to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea completed a £70m deal for the former Leicester City star on Wednesday, with Fofana signing a seven-year deal in west London.
Fofana made 37 Premier League appearances for Leicester, with his progression at the King Power Stadium disrupted after he broke his leg in pre-season last year.
Chelsea expressed interest in signing the 21-year-old earlier in the summer and Blues defender James was among those who took it upon themselves to try and convince Fofana to join.
‘I speak to Reece James on Instagram and Eduoard Mendy, [Marc] Cucurella as well,’ Fofana told Chelsea’s official website.
‘Reece James sent me a message on Instagram about one month ago, saying “You come and me and you play in defence”. I love that. It’s good for the confidence and he’s my guy now.’
Fofana’s move to Chelsea has seen him become the third most expensive Premier League defender behind Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

The French defender follows the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Cucurella to have joined Chelsea this summer.
He added: ‘The two last days have been really big days for me and I’m very happy. I trained this morning with the team and it’s a dream for me. I’m very excited to start playing games for the fans and the club.
‘I’m here to win trophies – the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, everything. I came here to win and the club is built to win trophies so I’m here to continue that.’
Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly, meanwhile, said: ‘Wesley is a hugely promising defender who has already proven his quality in the Premier League at a young age.
‘We are delighted we were able to bring one of Europe’s most exciting talents to Chelsea and further strengthen that area of our squad, both for this season and many more to come.’
Chelsea lost their second game of the season on Tuesday night against Southampton and will look to bounce back this weekend when they face London rivals West Ham.
