Why is primary health care in high demand in Borno and Gombe?

According to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) cooperation increased demand for primary healthcare (PHC) in the states of Niger and Gombe.
The organization highlighted that COVID-19 made things worse even as the demand for PHC services in the nation remained below average.

Why is primary health care in high demand in Borno and Gombe?

Dr. Faisal Shuaib, executive director and chief executive officer, addressed at a meeting and expressed the hope that the project, which increased the demand for PHC in the two states, would be scaled-up to additional states.

Dr. Usman Adamu, Incident Manager of the National Polio Emergency Operations, spoke on behalf of Faisal and said,

“We initiated this project in 2020 in partnership with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) to build on our agency’s PHC demand generation strategies, strengthen capacity of SPHCDBs (including LGAs/HFs), and community influencers to apply modern behavioral science approaches, advocacy, and communications to PHC demand generation in a COVID-impacted world.

“In light of the established benchmarks, I am certain that the team has achieved sufficient advancements on this project’s stage 1 and should consider taking action to develop the scale-up plan.

“It is my hope that this project’s impact, as intended, will strengthen the case for incorporating behavioral science into all phases of our PHC demand generation strategies.”

The Gates Foundation’s country director, Dr. Jeremie Zoungrana, stated that the organization’s mission is to “create a world where every person can live a healthy and productive life.”
