Zamfara State High Court Sentences Man to Death For Murder

Anas Dahiru, a resident of Unguwar Dallatu in Gusau, Zamfara State, has been sentenced to death by hanging by the Zamfara State High Court. The conviction stems from Anas allegedly killing his friend, Shamsu Ibrahim, with a knife during a dispute over one hundred Naira in 2017. The court, presided over by Justice Mukhtar Yusha’u, deemed Anas guilty after considering both sides of the case. The death penalty was issued in accordance with section 221 of the Penal Code.

In a separate case, Sadiqu Abubakar was sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted armed robbery in Bungudu Local Government Area. Sadiqu had attacked a businessman in Runji village, but the courageous victim managed to apprehend him and turn him over to the police. Barrister Mansur Lawal, the prosecution, welcomed the court’s judgment, emphasizing its deterrent effect. Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Jamo, legal aid council coordinator for Zamfara State, representing the convicts, mentioned the possibility of appealing the case despite recognizing its potential deterrent impact.
